JQuery Plugin Development and JQuery in Mexico

Ok, first that all, let me tell you that the web development in Mexico nowadays is based mostly on pure struts or spring frameworks (Java), standard .Net development or merely pure PHP and HTML frontends/backends.

The AJAX and RIA (Rich Internet Applications) JS based frontend frameworks usage is still in a very early (nearly null) development here in the country (due to the lack of knowledge, vision and interest, i guess) and my intention is to propagate this actually ‘not-so-new-to-the-rest-of-the-world-but-really-new-to-Mexico’ technologies and programming styles, so we can have a competitive level in the worldwide web devel market.

So, with that said, my intention now is to gather and create a pool of developers from the country and start to create a kind of association to propagate one of the very best JS frameworks in my point of view, JQuery, to customers and developers, so we can put it as a new standard for user interface creation and also to generate useful plugins to make JQuery an even more robust option for anyone who wants to create an elegant and fully interactive application, no matter what backend engine they use.

So hopefully in the next weeks, i will start to post news about this intentions, to see if its possible to make them a real solution and a real gigantic step in the Mexican webapp developing market (from training courses to commercial RIA creation).

So let’s get the JQuery evangelization over Mexico on!

Greetings!

Adrian

Integrating JQModal with non-XHTML DOCTYPE

Ok well, after a while i managed to integrate the famous JQModal plugin to my e-Banking app with the css design and everything i needed, so… i open the webapp on the browser, first on FF… it worked flawlessly!… ok now, let’s try IE7… and…. the jqModal overlay it’s working successfully!!

That’s great!! … ehm… what the… hold on a sec…

Where’s the rest of my application!!??

Damn…

Well… then… after integrating the jqModal plugin, that after some research i found that you need to have an XHTML Strict DOCTYPE, it was working great on both browsers, but i didnt noticed that in IE7 (and in FF too, but i didnt saw the errors because i was too excited) after including that kind of doctype, it worked ok, but it didn’t show a lots of elements in my webapp,  so leaving the DOCTYPE to strict XHTM was not a viable option, i needed to keep the standard html Transitional DOCTYPE so the elements on the app were able to show and work correctly… so then… what do i do?? I already have the commitment that the webapp it’s going to be working with the jqModal windows and everything… and i must leave it crossbrowser, since it’s an e-Banking website and a lot of people from different places and browsers were going to get into it…

Ok now what im gonna do?
I needed to make this one work, no room for mistakes!

Then i had to get into deep the source code of the jquery.jqmodal.js to see what i needed to modify to make it work under an standard transitional html doctype.

JACKBE’s PRESTO
